Cenosphere is een soort holle bal van vliegas die op het water kan drijven. Het is grijsachtig wit, met dunne en holle wanden, licht van gewicht, bulkgewicht 250-450 kg / m3 en deeltjesgrootte ongeveer 0,1 mm.
Het oppervlak is gesloten en glad, lage thermische geleidbaarheid, brandweerstand ≥ 1700 ℃, het is een uitstekend vuurvast materiaal voor thermische isolatie, veel gebruikt bij de productie van lichtgewicht gietbare en olieboringen.
De belangrijkste chemische samenstelling is silica en aluminiumoxide, met fijne deeltjes, hol, lichtgewicht, hoge sterkte, slijtvastheid, hoge temperatuurbestendigheid, thermische isolatie, isolatie vlamvertragend en andere functies, nu op grote schaal gebruikt in verschillende industrieën.
